Hello, Half-Lifers!

It's been a few months coming, but the first Half-Lifers contest is finally here! And as it's our first, we want to at least try and set it off with a bang, by making it as open to as many people as possible.

So, without wasting anymore time, let the contest begin!

RULES:
Rules are short, sweet and simple. And you must follow them for your entry to be accepted.

• You must hold a DeviantART account and a Steam account with trading capabilities - we need to be able to trade the prizes!
• Your DeviantART account and Steam account must be members of the respective Half-Lifers group. (I.E. Your DA account must be a member of this group, and your Steam account must be a member of the group on Steam.)
• You cannot submit an entry after the closing time/date. (See below for more details on contest time.)
• Entries must be related to the theme and games applicable. (See below for more details.)
• Do not try to influence the judge's opinions.
• Yes - you can submit more than one image if you intend for your submission to be a comic, or something that requires multiple pictures to tell a story/expression. But these will be judged as a single piece rather than judged individually. This is to keep it fair to those who submit a single image.
• Follow the group's rules - these can be found on the main page.
• Follow DeviantART's site rules. (You should be doing this anyway!)

THE THEME OF THIS CONTEST IS:
Christmas

A little cliché I'm sure, but it fits with the time of year; it's festive and jolly - what's not to love? We want you to create a piece of art expressing the theme of 'Christmas' in some way. How it is expressed is entirely up to you!

• Half-Life / 2 / Deathmatch / Source / Lost Coast / Episode One / Episode Two
• Portal / 2
• Team Fortress / 2
• Left4Dead / 2
• Counter-Strike: Source / Global Offensive
• Day of Defeat: Source
• Alien Swarm
• Dota 2

Yes, you can create art for any of the above games. You can even mix and match characters from different Universes - just make it fun! This list is also available on the group's main page for reference.

MATERIALS:
Anything goes. As we mentioned, we want this to be as open as it possibly can be - and that includes removing the limits that are materials. Not all people will have access to digital tools, some prefer to work traditionally, some like to write or render models, and we entirely understand and respect this.

You may wonder, or rather think, that this is unfair - how are we supposed to judge a Source Filmmaker image against a traditional piece, right? The fact of the matter is, we're not looking at 'skill', we're looking at the effort and time taken to produce and express the theme of Christmas with whichever characters you may choose.

In other words, heart!

If the materials, or rather lack of materials, put you off, then we ask that you simply do not enter this contest rather than kicking up a fuss. Thank you!

JUDGES:
This contest has three judges. No judging will commence until the contest is over.

YOUR CONTEST JUDGES ARE:

These deviants will not be entering in the contest (naturally), and have been selected to make unbiased and fair choices when judging comes around. Please do not try to push them to favour your work over others.

PRIZES:
Because that's what you're all here for I'm sure!

These prizes were chosen in response to a poll created earlier this year; Steam items were voted the most popular choice of reward.

Winners will have the items traded to them from the Half-Lifers Steam Account, which holds the prizes. This will be done after the winners have been announced on a group journal. If you are a winner, you will need a Steam Account with sufficient privileges to accept the trade, or to trade at all.

Please be aware of the new Steam Guard Authentication rules coming into play on the 9th of December (this notice should appear at the top of any trade windows.) This means that items sent from the Half-Lifers Steam Account may be held by Steam for up to three days. We ask that you respect this as it isn't something in our control.

1ST PRIZE:
5 x Team Fortress 2 MANN CO. SUPPLY CRATE KEY
1 x Sack of Gems  (1,000 Gems)

2ND PRIZE:
3 x Team Fortress 2 MANN CO. SUPPLY CRATE KEY
1 x Sack of Gems (1,000 Gems)

3RD PRIZE:
2 x Team Fortress 2 MANN CO. SUPPLY CRATE KEY
500 Gems (Not packed)

Don't like or play Team Fortress 2? Don't use gems? Sell them! Give them to a friend! What you do with the prizes is entirely up to you.

TIME:
The contest will run from the 1st of December (right now!) Up until the 1AM, 1st of January, 2016 (GMT Time.)

Simple as that! Any entrants made after this time will not be accepted.

ENTRIES:
Entries must be submitted to the group's gallery and labelled correctly. Basically, you need to let us know that your image was created for this contest. Otherwise we may miss it entirely!

Put a name in the title, leave a comment on this journal/main page. Etc. If we miss your entry, just bring it to our attention and we'll fix it.
